Before there was Superman, there was Clark Kent. A humble (and extremely good looking) farm kid trying to lead a normal life in a rural, small town. However, “normal” is a bit difficult to obtain when you come from an entirely different planet. Clark (played by the “boy next door” hunk, Tom Welling) must consistently hide his abnormal gifts from friends and love interest, Lana (played by the “girl next door” beauty, Kristin Kreuk).
When Clark was a baby, he was delivered to Smallville by way of meteor, a meteor that continues to affect the town in mysterious ways. The meteor rocks (also known as Kryptonite) contain a power that can gift various superhuman abilities and strengths to the people of Smallville, however it usually isn’t pleasant. Clark Kent is in constant need to protect himself, his family, and his friends, thus is the life of Superman.
In this specific scene, Lana is held hostage by Emily, her old childhood friend who died when they were very young. Grief stricken, Emily’s father decided to use Emily’s DNA, and Kryptonite, to clone her and allow her to mature as a “normal” young girl. However, like most cloning experiments, Emily is not herself. The negative combination of continuous testing and Kryptonite has made Emily angry and certifiable, and she now possesses superhuman abilities that aid in her deviant vendettas. Still plagued by childhood fantasies and the desire to have her friend back, Emily is recreating a childhood scene by having a tea party with Lana. Lana converses with Emily and “pours” her a cup of tea in the colorful Villeroy & Boch Twist Alea cup, although the tea is just another facet of Emily’s imagination as the cups remain empty.
The colorful Twist Alea pattern features a band of multicolored mosaic tiles around the rim of each dish, designed against a pale yellow background, and decorated with small diamond-shaped designs. Referred to as a “checkerboard of color and fun” from Villeroy & Boch, this pattern adds a real splash of delight to any table setting, even if it is set by a superhuman clone.
