Great Pottery Throw Down – Season 3, Ep 1 – Molly Hatch Good Thoughts

The Great Pottery Throw Down  | Season 3, Episode 1

Season 5 of beloved show Great Pottery Throw Down drops on HBO on April 14th, and so we are looking back at some of the pieces seen in previous seasons.

Season 3 brings a new judge into the pottery – Sue Pryke. Sue works across a diverse genre of ceramics, from making bespoke ware for restaurants and hotels in her Leicestershire studio to designing for big brands such and Marks & Spencer and Ikea.

The first episode of Season 3 features a breakfast set challenge. The potters must make 2 cups, 2 saucers, toast rack, and cafetiere (French press).

As the judges discuss the challenge, they stand behind a table filled with a veritable pantheon of British pottery. Spode, Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, Molly Hatch, Denby, Portmeirion,  and Hannah Turner.

The second pattern to explore is Molly Hatch Good Thoughts. Molly Hatch’s Good Thoughts is colorful and cheeky…. this is a stoneware array with something to say. Artist, designer, and ceramicist Molly Hatch began her career as a studio potter, infusing her tableware and home decor items with contemporary sensibilities and classical charm. The daughter of a painter and an organic dairy farmer, she draws from the beauty of everyday objects by imagining where each will live.
