In the pilot episode, we meet the Reagan family, on the day that Jamie graduates from the Academy. We meet each character in turn, while getting beauty shots of New York City as a bold version of New York, New York plays – making it very clear that this show is set in New York City, and is about the people who serve New York City.

As happens with many pilots, things can change once the show is picked up by the network. This happened with Blue Bloods – most notably with the actor that plays Nicky – in the pilot, Nicky is played by Marlene Lawston. However, in subsequent episodes, Nicky is played by Sami Gayle.

Similarly, in the pilot, the family dinner is served on Royal Crown Derby Gadroon Rose. This pattern is only seen in the pilot, and afterwards, the family dines on Mottahedeh Sacred Bird & Butterfly – read more here.
