Author Abby McCarthy has it all. The thriving career, sexy husband, 2 kids (one boy, one girl), the gorgeous house, the fabulous friends. But, it’s a lie. A lie she is telling to herself, her kids, her brother, the other parents at school. Her husband sneaks back into the house each morning after banging an actress from the CW, just so the kids won’t find out that they are separated.
At the beginning of the episode, the house is full of vibrancy. Loud conversations, laughter, bright colors accented with bold grays. We can see Abby making breakfast AND lunch for the kids, with a cup of coffee in a Dansk Kobenstyle Slate Gray Mug. Later in the episode, the vibrancy is gone, in the cool early morning light, it is Jake holding that same mug. The colors in the room are all gray, and it is in this moment, Abby and Jake are coming to terms with the end. The end of their life together as one family. Then end of the lie that has been their marriage. The end of everything they had together. And possibly even the end of Abby’s career…..how can you write advice books about life, love, kids, and marriage, when yours is falling apart?
Dansk Kobenstyle is quintessential mid-century modern. Only a few years ago, you could only find these pieces in antique stores and estate sales. Now, we are lucky that Lenox/Dansk has relauched this iconic design. Dansk was founded as a collaboration between artist-designer Jens Quistgaard and Martha and Ted Nierenberg. Together, they founded Dansk in a garage in 1954. By 1982, Quistgaard had created more than 2,000 different designs for Dansk of dinnerware, glassware and items for the home – including Kobenstyle!
