Set in the early 1960’s, Mad Men portrays an era where men worked and played harder than their wives, who were left alone to tend to their wifely duties. However, this is not necessarily the case for Mad Men’s sweet heart, Betty Draper. As the wife of the mysterious Don Draper, Betty has to undergo her husband’s light night hours, cheating scandals, and hard drinking yet unlike most women, she grows tired of the antics and speaks up against her husband. This can be understood in the first scene as we see Don come home late to dinner with his family. Throughout the somewhat tense and saddening scene, we see Betty sitting at the table with Metlox Poppytrails Vernon Kiln dinner plates. In the second scene, we see Betty drinking tea from a Metlox Poppytrails Vernon Kiln tea cup and saucer with her next door neighbor.
This vintage pattern features a mint green background with dark brown shading. Metlox Poppytrails Vernon is known throughout the tableware industry as a staple American company, founded in 1921, which only makes sense that the classic American man, Don Draper, should have these at his dinner table.
